Week 14 - Forming Sentences (Monday)

Over last week and during weekends, I tried to prompt and 'test' my boys to spell CVC words. Meaning consanant vowel consanant words. He seems quite ready to starts spelling and this exercise comes in handy.

Gotten the template from Sherryl Mummy again. She shared with me this activity she did with her girl, whom is my girl's classmate and I tot this will be a good trial for my boy. The sentences is simple and its made up of words that I have taught him before so it shouldn't be a prob.

The activity made up of 3 sheets of 4 sentences each. For a start, he fill in the blanks for all the 3 sheets. Not bad but seeing that he keep using 'cars' (Yes, he is a cars fanatic) thus I ended up prompting some other CVC words. Good job! He spelt well!

After forming sentences, I wanted him to practise writing. Still find him copy-writing very poor. Thought of letting him practise on chalkboard. DISASTER! He kept on writing wrongly, missing out words etc. I called it a STOP much to his disagreements. Told him to practise more than next round can write better. (Think he sense he couldnt write properly so he didnt protest anymore! Ha~)

Finally after much scoldings on spacing and focus, he finally wrote it better on his 2nd attempt.

Meanwhile my girl practise 1 & 2 Timestable. Spin, using the answers, she need to find ?x? and do graphing. We ended up just writing the answers for all the sums.

Afterwhich, I let her do simple maths sums. To find out quantity needed if total quantity is given. Realised she is a bit bad at this. Not bad!

Week 13 - Something NEW! Learning Multiplication

Today I introduce the Times Table and Multiplication sign to my gal since she need to start learning for tml's Spelling. Thought to myself was a simple activity and then focus on Spelling.

Oh meanwhile, my boy also need to learn. This is the time when the Wipe Clean Sight Word folder comes to use. LOL~ He will write to fill the blanks and read all to me after he is done. So for a good 20mins I can focus on my gal.

I use 'Sets of' to explain how to count in a simplier way. So for example: 2 x 2 = 2 sets of '||'. So she counts the number of sticks and totaled them up. She is doing a pretty good job as they have learnt how to count in 2s in school already.

After dinner, we had some Dice Sight Game. The kids roll dice and move and attempt to read. Using their lego bricks, they get to stack on top of their bricks each time they get it right. (Oh, of cos we gave little boy some chance) A fun way to get my little boy in the act!

Want to have some fun? I got them from here... Enjoy!!!

Week 13 - Hazy Monday

Today PSI was high once againand my gal has been coughing since last week. Due to some irressponsible decision by the school to practise for K2 Grad Concert.

Definetely understand that portion as they need to make sure everyone is in sync and so on but to me, child's health is more important. And majority of parents were not aware and never prepare any mask, including me. Upon seeing that scenario, shouldnt they forsake idea of going outdoor. Seriously with a PSI of 150+, Teacher tell me that they see the skies was quite clear and dont really smell haze so they went out with Principal permission?!? Nxt day Principal came to spoke to me upon hearing my displeasure, she said she was in a meeting and only aware after it happen. Win lor! So today my gal's bill at GP is $70+, who is paying? Me lo!

Anyway, no point crying over spilled milk. I have prepare a mask for in case of such incidents. On other hand, i remind the kids every morning that they should not go outdoor. And i also tell teacher that both my kids have sinus so pleaseeeee...

Today my gal, including me went to GP. So we do simple assessment, hands on learning then Roll Dice Activity that a lovely Mummy did for me. Kids had fun and my boy can READ!

The kids even had some bonding time with Grandma "picking sticks". And savouring yummy Doggy cookies.

Week 12 - About Phonics & Spelling (Thursday)

Today we revise Phonics with this wonderful CVC activity prompted by Sherryl Mummy. Thanks to her, I sometimes get reminded of teaching ideas that could have been used or I get fresh new ideas from her mostly too.. Enjoyed sharing and discussing as thru all this conversation, we get more ideas brainstorming together...

I let my boy find the alphbets and spell as per the cards. Then I get him to write it as a form of practising his handwriting as well. (Oh his handwriting is ermmmmm...... atrocious!) After he do the spelling and writing, I get him to read what he has spelled and write. Good! His phonics skills still not "rusty". At the same time, my gal is practising her 听写 for tml.

After my gal is done, she wants a similar activity. So I gave her the Word Family "Houses" and get her to form words with the sounding and read and explain the meaning to make sure she knows what she wrote. Good! Very good! She knows! For a short 10mins, she came up with all this. Not bad as she is kinda confused with "ack" & "ank". I had to explain twice to her.

Got them from this website, a lot of freebies. Go browse thru.

At night, we practised with assessment book. My boy did 2 pages of his and my gal did 6 pages with her Time revision.

As for yesterday, we also did assessment books.

Afterwhich I got lil man to practise Pre-Primer Sight Word List and read some sentences. Need some prompting but I feel its of acceptable standard.

Week 10: About Me Writing & Learning TIME

Thursday we did English writing. Did a simple About Me writing with 3 sentence of self introduction for my 5Y and asked my 6Y to add on 3 sentences. After which, they get 1 pair of "eyes" to stick on their drawing and colour it.

Got them worksheets in B5 size. They paste it in the book and do the assignment. 5Y will read and colour the star below the sight words he can read, and read the simple sentences for the pic below. Although after prompting then he read out Red & Yellow, he insist to colour the car on his own preference.

My 6Y did a short comprehension activity and also colour it after that. She can answer the questions but she didn't like long answers. Common signs but I explained that she need to answer it in whole, if not marks will be deducted next time when she goes P1.

We start simple Time learning for my 5Y and revising it 1 more round with my 6Y. This time I encourage her to use her Skip counting in 5s instead of relying on the minutes marking on the clock. She basically got it all correct, except she need to build up her confidence in telling time.

I taught my boy about hourly, make him recognize Hour and Minutes hand as well. Good job as he can adjust the "hands" to the correct hourly time I asked for.

Friday, we finished up homework from school and enjoy a treat from Swensens. I was surprised to see K1 learning about Base 10 counting within 20! OMG! So fast and I thought I could on hold the Maths portion. It seems like I need to start some simple activity to reinforce th Base 10 since school is teaching now and it's still 'fresh' in their memory.

Managed to even go thru Chap 3 of the Chinese I got for her too. Simple reading and intro 2 new chinese words - 跳绳.

I followed up tonight with Time Puzzle printables. My 5Y still doing hourly time matching whereas my 6Y to reinforce telling the time without the minutes marking. Good job for both of them.

We ended with 2 Phonics reader each to reinforce Letter sounding and blends for my 6Y as she quite reluctant on blending sounds for new words she can't read. As for my 5Y, it's revising thru reading. Liked this new set I ordered perviously as it is short and simple. Not too taxing for them to read after simple hands-on learning.
